With the advent of the Golden Globes 2014 on Sunday, I thought I would show you how to get the look of the Hollywood stars who attended, on an affordable budget. I'm not one for avidly following red carpet trends, mainly as they're not really looks I can incorporate into my own style directly because I don't attend any formal events. However the glitz and glam of award ceremonies can be inspiring and a great source of escapism. The chief trigger for writing this post was actually my friend Fionnuala who suggested I covered it because she wanted 'to look cool like them', so I obliged! Above is my best dressed ladies of the event, the creme de la creme of Golden Globe red carpet fashion. Below is my picks of the best items to recreate some of the outfits featured. I hope you enjoy!

I love this dress. It's fashion forward yet incredibly simple. The red is stunning against Lupita Nyongo's skin tone, and just the right shade so that it doesn't merge with the red carpet. Lupita looks incredible. For me she won hands down. This AQAQ dress is a great dupe for the Ralph Lauren designer version. |
Olivia Wilde proves that being 5 months pregnant is no barrier to glamour. This figure-hugging Gucci dress looks amazing on her. These Motel and Missguided dresses are incredibly affordable ways to capture her designer look. |
Zooey Deschanel always adds a vintage flair to her red carpet looks. This Oscar de la Renta dress is to die for with it's beautiful layers of tulle and sparkle. Initially finding a dupe for Zooey's outfit proved difficult on the high street, but once I browsed smaller fashion sellers on Etsy it was much easier to find and affordable alternative. |
Kaley's look tentatively walks the border between princess and rock and roll. Her feminine floral dress coupled with her side swept locks, gives her outfit youth. Though the dupes I have found are not similar in cut, they both feature the digital flower print found in the Rani Zakhem original which Cuoco wore. |
Julianna is the model of sophistication in this Andrew Gn dress. The gold detailing is definitely what drew me to including her in this post. It's this detail I have picked up on in the Phase Eight version I've included. |
I love this Tom Ford dress on Naomi Watts. The shimmery nude-pink colour complements her skin tone, giving her a glow from within. The look is classic and polished, oosing glamour. These Forever Unique and ASOS versions are a much more affordable way to replicate Watts' look, without the hefty price tag. |
Fashionista Louise Roe looks beautiful in this Monique L'Huillier number. The subtle lace cut-outs and sleeves are sexy without being revealing. Although it is not the same coral hue, this Missguided version is very close in cut and style. |
Maria Menounos adds an incredible pop of neon to the red carpet. I love this dress for the daring choice of colour, and the way the panelling sculpts the body, emphasising Maria's hourglass figure. If neon doesn't intimidate you, the pink Forever Unique dress is an amazing statement. The Black Forever Unique panelled dress is a close fit to the Max Azria Atelier's original. |
If Reese Witherspoon had worn this dress in a different colour it probably wouldn't have made it into my favourites. Not because she wouldn't look incredible, but because it would have been too safe. The bold aquamarine shade perfectly complements Reese's golden blonde hair. This Topshop version is a great affordable option for most of us who can't afford Calvin Klein prices. |
Tatiana Maslany channels old Hollywood vintage glamour in this beautiful dress. The cinched waist adds definition to the outfit, giving the actress curves. Both She Inside dupes replicate a similar silhouette to the Jenny Packham original. |
Amy Adams shows just the right amount of skin in this low back and plunge neck Valentino number. Wearing her hair up, she manages to avoid the red-hair-red-dress clash. This Missguided version adds a touch more sex appeal with the high leg slit. |
I'll be honest this is going to be a rare appearance by Taylor Swift on my blog because I'm not her biggest fan. However, this dress looks incredible and the hot pink colour makes sure she doesn't look too mature for her age. I found it near impossible to find a close match to the Carolina Herrera original. The Forever Unique version is beautiful with the black gem detail along the neckline and waist. The New Look dress is a complete bargain in the sales.
Melissa Rauch looks beautiful in this curve accentuating Romana Keveza dress. This bold yellow colour is refreshing. The Glamorous version I have suggested as an alternative, though less figure hugging, can hide a multitude of sins. |
