Welcome back to Alice Adores Apparel, and to the next installment of Baking The Bake Off.
This post is all about glorious Bread Week. Always a tough time for the bakers with Paul's hawk eyes watching intently over their every move in even more so than usual. The contestants faced a soda bread Signature Bake, tricky baguette Technical Challenge, and 3D bread sculpture Showstoppers. By far the stand out bake from the episode was Paul's incredible bread lion. He truly deserved the one off commendation Paul and Mary gave him.
So this week I decided to combine the Signature Bake and Showstopper Challenge to create a hedgehog soda bread. One of the quickest and easiest bakes I've done for the Bake Off, I followed Alvin's Prosciutto, Manchego and Balsamic Onion Soda Bread from the BBC website. The only thing I removed was the balsamic vinegar because I hate it. Devil food through and through! I also made a feta cheese spread to go with it inspired by one I used to buy at Amsterdam's Albert Cuyp Market when I was living there. The recipe can be seen in the pictures but if you would like to see written instructions leave me a comment below.
I loved this bake and can't wait to make it again! I made 3 jars full of feta spread which I'm so happy to have extra to enjoy. I highly recommend Alvin's recipe. The combination of flavours is delicious.
Thanks very much for checking out my blog! I'll be baking along for the whole series of GBBO so follow my escapades here each week.
