If you haven't watched the new Netflix series GLOW, you are missing the hell out! It is brilliant! The story charts the origins of the legendary Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in the 1980s. Going from struggling actresses, models and performers, to professional female wrestlers, we watch the ladies put together their first TV pilot, steered by their director Sam Sylvia. I thought the performances were very authentic, not the over polished hollywood rose tinted glasses version of a group of women striving and working together but also, although the plot is framed by a rivalry between two of the main characters in the show, Alison Brie as Ruth "Zoya the Destroya" Wilder and Betty Gilpin as Debbie "Liberty Belle" Eagan, it wasn't just one big cat fight. Special shoutout to one of my fave artists and activists, Kate Nash, for her cracking performance as Rhonda "Britannica" Richardson.
I was so inspired by the fashion the characters rock in GLOW. It's all sequins, velvet, and spandex, yaasss! The 1980s aerobics style leotards especially get me so excited! I love how the show had a really diverse cast, both in terms or race and body shape. Progress, and proof that everyone needs to rock a leotard! I wanted to put together the ultimate GLOW inspired bodysuit (the leotard's more sophisticated 2017 cousin!) collection, jam packed with outfit ideas and fun!
